Composite deck slab or combideck is special type of floor system where profiled steel plate are used as base or shuttering for reinforced cast in-situ concrete until it is hardened and attains its strength.
[1] The section then formed works a composite section of structural steel plate and reinforced concrete, the composite behavior of the slab depends upon the shear connection between the steel plate & concrete.
[2] The shear connection between the steel deck and concrete can be classified as full or partial based on the based upon its type. There can be following type of shear connectors between the profiled plate & concrete.
- Mechnical interlock
- Frictional interlock
- Welded shear studs
- Deformed ribs
[3] For the full shear connection the bending resistance for combideck can be estimated as per stress block shown in the images below.
[4] Further in bottom reinforcement is also used in the contribution from those can taken in the stress block & flexure capacity.
[5] The tension capacity of the steel plate in generally neglected while computing the hogging bending resistance, the stress block is shown in the image below.
[6] Eurocode EN 1994-1-1 covers the composite structure and in Indian code IS 11384 the requirement & design considerations for composite structure are stipulated.
